BSRIA Welcomes Energy Storage Plans
BSRIA Welcomes Energy Storage Plan Plans to shape up the energy market have to be warmly received. However, people do not realise that a lot of their buildings already have an extensive energy monitoring package installed and operational in the form of their BMS and Metering systems. These powerful tools are often overlooked. They are the 1st steps to real energy savings and analysis.

Smart HVAC on the Up
http://www.smartbuildingsmagazine.com/news/smart-hvac-on-the-up Within the BMS industry we are at the technical coal face with regard to experience with Smart HVAC or, more commonly known as Packaged Plant. It is our responsibility to integrate these products with other building systems and essentially bring them to life in a suitable way. While there is no doubt that this approach represents the future of HVAC, plant clients need to be made aware that it is not without it’s pitfalls. From a clients perspective these Smart HVAC products are thought of as a part of the overall BMS installation. The problem with this is that they also think that they can be made to function in anyway that is required by means to adapting the software. While this may work with BMS controlled plant these Smart devices are mostly running on fixed software that cannot be easily adapted. It is when a client wants to change how their building and HVAC plant operates that they have the realisation that the smart plant control is mostly set in stone and their requirements may not be totally possible.

BCIA Introduces New Courses
Continual training and development is essential within the Building Controls Industry, but these courses are equally important for clients, building operators and maintainers to ensure they are up to date with the latest technology and approaches. It is no longer good enough to just ‘copy and paste’ an approach to an engineering solution or requirement. BCIA Introduces New Courses

Construction industry bounces back after recent stall in growth
It is great that the construction industry has seen a 12% increase in awarded contracts. However, the construction industry needs to wake up to the fact that constantly putting in systems by the cheapest bidder is often counter intuitive and denies the building owners the system specifications they believe they are buying Construction industry bounces back after recent stall in growth

Let’s Get Radical – About Heat
Within the Building Services sector it is very common for a previous tried and tested solution to get used over and over again. This can be seen through all echelons of building design and it’s a habit that needs to be broken if real progress is going to be made in terms of getting the most out of new technologies and energy savings. Targeting Training to Meet the Building Performance Challenge
There is a definite and worrying skills shortage within the controls industry that has the potential to impact heavily if not addressed very soon. The technologies we employ to deliver the required control systems are continually developing and evolving.
Introducing new engineers to our industry can only help support this as they are in-tune with general technical developments and can grow with it.
