Seasonal advice from Cube Controls
I am sure everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break and are now settling back into work, all fighting fit and raring to go! Don’t forget that your buildings and their systems did not stop operating during this time and that problems may have occured and been missed in your absence. After the festive period, especially as the external temperatures have fallen, go to your BMS and check the alarm logs and overview pages and look for potential problems. Pay particular attention to your external temperature (outside air) sensor and make sure you are happy that it is reading accurately. Not only does this sensor govern the effectiveness of your heating systems it also protects dormant systems such as Chillers and protects them from freezing.

Cube leads the way to significant energy savings at South Coast Shopping Centre…
Cube, working in partnership with CO2 Target, was invited to undertake a survey of the HVAC Plant and Systems at the Swan Shopping Centre, Southampton.
It quickly became evident that while the original HVAC installation was some years old the BMS installation was reasonably new. The issues occurring stemmed from inflexible software design and badly placed environmental sensors that were providing data which simply did not reflect the environment within the mall itself. Equally, dozens of lighting circuits were being employed that had to be manually controlled via the Mall Management Personnel every day.
Cube deployed a wireless sensor solution throughout the mall to monitor the temperature, air quality and humidity. This approach was both fast, reliable and involved virtually no disruption to the public spaces.
The existing BMS software was augmented to respond to the new sensor data and to provide additional energy efficient control routines designed by Cube. In addition to this the existing lighting circuit control was automated and integrated with external light level sensing via the BMS to make the most use of the extensive glass roofed areas throughout the mall.

Dendron employ Cube Integration Solution
This project required Cube to update and improve the environmental controls for the DDD Dendron pharmaceutical storage warehouse. We employed an extensive Sontay Sonnet wireless sensing system to monitor the various temperatures in the warehouse and around the products stocked, thus allowing sensors to be placed where cabled sensors could not be. This inturn was paired with a new packaged Air Handling Unit and high level Air Distribution System, both of which were controlled via modbus data integration. As the distributed air control is located at such a high level in the warehouse, we dedcided to employ an array of Belimo MP-Bus damper actuators with local supply air temperature sensing and onboard fault diagnosis, thus reducing the need for maintenance staff to physically access them to an absolute minimum.
All systems were integrated into a single Cube BMS solution that provides full PC based User control and automatic data recording of product stock temperature as well as remote mechanical fault notification from the high level air damper system and other plant items. Since completion of this project we have been informed that this control system design is to form the blue print for further pharmaceutical warehouses environmental systems.
